Whitko Archery Club Hosted Annual Tournament To Benefit Community Food Banks
News Release
SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko Archery Club hosted another successful tournament to benefit the Whitko community food banks on Saturday, Nov. 11. They began this tournament in 2016 and have been putting this event on each year since.
This year’s event was held at Whitko Career Academy as a 10 meter only tournament.
This allows for archers to ease into the season by only shooting at a 10 meter distance instead of the normal 10 meter and 15 meter distances.
There were 18 different schools participating, 17 from Indiana and one from Michigan, and 204 archers that posted scores during six flights, or rounds, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The archers were divided into three divisions: elementary, middle school and high school. There were 70 elementary archers, 33 girls and 37 boys; 66 middle school archers, 31 girls and 35 boys; and 68 high school archers, 36 girls and 32 boys.
They were able to collect 1,347 items that have been split and delivered to both the South Whitley Area Emergency Food Bank and the Washington Township Food Bank. With the net proceeds from tournament fees, monetary donations, and the Booster Club’s concession stand, they were also able to make a $450 cash donation to each organization.
