WARSAW — Jack Wilhite will continue to serve as the Warsaw Common Council’s president in 2023 after the other members unanimously voted to keep him in that position for another year.
The election of council president took place Tuesday during the council’s first meeting of 2023.
Councilwoman Cindy Dobbins nominated Wilhite for president, Councilman Jerry Frush provided the second and there were no other nominations.
After he was approved, Wilhite said, “I thank the council for their support. It’s been a joy. Sometimes, it’s a little tough, but it’s been good working with everyone up here. What’s really nice is that I truly believe that everyone on this council really has the best interest of Warsaw in mind. They love the town, and to me that’s the first qualification a council member needs to have. They have to love the town and its citizens. So, thank you.”
Later, Wilhite told the other council members he would communicate with each one of them about committee assignments and if they wanted to stay on their current ones or try something different.
In other business, the council accepted a conflict of interest statement for Chad Bassett, who works for the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory.
Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said the single, one-time conflict of interest statement was needed for Bassett because Bassett’s property management company will do some work at the fire station.
