Hoffman, Valley Among TRC Swim Champs

BUNKER HILL – Brandon Hoffman had a big day at Saturday’s Three Rivers Conference Boys Swim Championships. The Tippecanoe Valley junior was part of two championships and was runner-up in two others as part of the festivities at Maconaquah High School.
Hoffman, along with Carson Parker, Karl Parker and Logan Hummitch, opened the meet with a 1:50.06 championship in the medley relay, holding off Maconaquah by a half second. Hoffman later came back to win the 100 freestyle at 52.32, again holding off Maconaquah freestylers within a second.
Hoffman would take runner-up in the backstroke, swimming a 1:00.34 and trailing the record-setting 55.76 from Northfield’s Grant Dale. Hoffman and the 400 free relay were two seconds back of Maconaquah, the champs at 3:36.19 to Valley’s 3:38.56.
Three more TRC records fell Saturday morning, two from Maconaquah’s Cole Bretzman, who posted new standards in the individual medley (2:08.56) and breaststroke (1:04.64). In each case, Tippecanoe Valley’s Carson Parker was second (2:14.12 and 1:08.91, respectively).
Maconaquah diver Vincenzo Rooker raised the new standard with an 11-dive set of 486.85.
Karl Parker added a pair of third-place swims, a 2:02.08 in the 200 free and 1:01.76 in the butterfly.
Jacob Seuferer of Rochester won the 200 free (1:55.78), Dale won the 50 free (22.19), Seth Blossom of Wabash won both the fly (56.15) and 500 free (5:04.50), and Maconaquah won the 200 free relay (1:38.11).
Team standings had Maconaquah repeat as champions with 375 points, followed by Rochester at 293, Valley at 222, Wabash at 149, Manchester at 80 and Northfield at 32.
