Washington St., Warsaw, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; theft and carrying a handgun without a license, both class A misdemeanors; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On July 3, a Warsaw Police officer went to a residence regarding a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a man who said that multiple items of his property had been stolen from him. According to court documents, the man was attempting to retrieve the property when he was battered by Jayne.
The man said he left a residence two weeks prior to July 3 to stay with another individual. Upon returning to the residence the next day, he discovered several of his belongings were missing, including his clothing, multiple bikes, his wallet, legal documents and a cell phone. Another man and a woman, identified as Gosnell, had been staying at the residence as well. The victim in this case learned that the man and Gosnell had moved elsewhere and taken his property with them.
After learning where the individuals had moved to, the man went to the residence to retrieve his property. While speaking with Gosnell at the residence, Jayne began to chase the man. The man ran out of the residence when he felt an object hit him in the back of the head. He turned around and noticed what he believed to be a handgun laying on the ground. Gosnell retrieved the handgun and returned to the residence. Jayne allegedly attempted to hit the man; however, he was able to get away.
Warsaw Police officers went to the Washington Street residence and retrieved a bicycle and identification card belonging to the man. Gosnell and Jayne were not at the residence at that time.
On July 6, Warsaw Police returned to the residence along with Jayne’s parole officer. They were allowed into the residence by a roommate and found Jayne and Gosnell in a room. Officers found a handgun in a box and confiscated the weapon. The box also contained a scale with methamphetamine residue and the man’s wallet. Officers also found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine and marijuana in the room. Gosnell said the marijuana belonged to her.
Jayne was previously convicted of carrying a handgun without a license and theft in 2012. At the time of this incident, Jayne was on parole for carrying a handgun without a license and was on bond for resisting law enforcement in a vehicle.
Jayne has also been sentenced on three prior unrelated felony offenses.
Jayne and Gosnell were both booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on July 6.
