The Northern Lakes Conference announced its schedule for this weekend’s NLC Cross Country Championships, which includes a wrinkle in the schedule. Rather than starting with the JV races as in year’s past, the tournament will begin with the NLC boys varsity race with a bright and early 9 a.m. start at Ox Bow Park. The Northern Indiana Conference will run its boys varsity next, followed by the NLC girls and NIC girls, all in half-hour increments following the NLC boys race.
The NIC/NLC boys JV race will follow the NIC girls varsity race, and the JV girls from the NIC/NLC will start at approximately 11:30 a.m. Awards are slated for approximately noon for the NIC and NLC participants.
It should be noted Ox Bow Park does charge $2 for car admission into the grounds. The park will open at 7 a.m.
Warsaw announced Monday its kickoff for the football game Friday night with Wawasee will be at 7:30 p.m. Warsaw is also hosting is Homecoming events Friday evening surrounding the football game. Tickets are available at the Fisher Field gates. Warsaw also announced there will be a fireworks display 15 minutes after the football game. Wawasee fans are invited to move to the Warsaw side of the field after the game to view the show.
Wawasee announced Monday that its girls soccer game at Elkhart Memorial Tuesday evening will be a varsity-only contest. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
Triton has added a boys and girls cross country meet with Winamac for Tuesday evening. The meet, which will also include LaVille, will start at 5:30 p.m. EST at Winamac Town Park. Also the Triton junior high cross country teams will compete at LaVille, a 5 p.m. start at LaVille Elementary School. Both the high school and junior high teams will compete at the Hoosier North Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 5, at Winamac Town Park. The boys varsity race will kick things off at 10 a.m. followed by the girls varsity at 10:40, boys junior high at 11:30 and girls junior high at 12:05.
Triton also announced its varsity and JV volleyball games at home this Wednesday will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the JV contest. Following that, Triton will have its Senior Night for the varsity, with the varsity game to follow. Speaking of Senior Night, Triton will hold its fall senior recognition before the start of its football game Friday night against North Judson. Band, cheer, cross country, girls golf, boys tennis and football will all be honored before kickoff. Seniors and their parents will be admitted free into the football game.
Shane Staley announced Monday a tennis directive to help build the youth tennis scene in and around Kosciusko County.
In May 2019, Staley Tennis began planning a junior pathway. Currently only juniors from the ages of 11-18 take part in its training academy. Beginning in 2020, Staley will accept 16 players annually into its academy, while additionally running new red ball, orange ball and green ball programs to foster in new players to its academy. Annually there will be programs offered each spring, summer and fall for ages 11 and under.

Applications are now being taken for those interested in initiating their children to the life-sport of tennis around the North Webster area. Due to limited certified trainers in the area, each of the pathway programs will be limited to only 12 players each.
Staley will organize each program through USTA’s Net Generation to provide each player with the building blocks to develop into future competitive players. Staley is a certified coach and trainer with the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association). He has organized the Lakeland Youth Center’s summer tennis camp for the past four years. One of his training facilities is located in North Webster in partnership with the North Webster Community Center.
