Lines Are Drawn For Tennis Postseason
INDIANAPOLIS – It will be a busy week this week for boys tennis as teams are in full sectional mode. The IHSAA announced Monday night its state tournament draws for the 64 sectionals containing 296 teams from around the great Hoosier state.
Locally, three sectionals will house IFN coverage area teams. All three of those brackets are five-team draws and start with Wednesday matches.
At Bremen, Triton opens right away against the host Lions on Wednesday. Matches at DeSantis Courts at Sunnyside Park begin at 4:30 p.m. The winner will get Plymouth in the semis on Thursday, opposite John Glenn and LaVille in the other semi-final.
At NorthWood, the Panthers will look to win its first sectional title since 2007 as host of its tourney. The Panthers drew the bye and will play Thursday against the winner of Goshen versus Bethany Christian. Fairfield and Jimtown will square off on Thursday in the other semi-final.
At Warsaw, Whitko and Columbia City will meet in the first contest Wednesday afternoon, the winner set to take on Wawasee in the first semi-final on Thursday. Warsaw will look to win its eighth straight sectional title, taking on Tippecanoe Valley in Thursday’s second semi-final. Warsaw listed a Saturday final starting at 10 a.m.
The NorthWood champ goes to Concord for the regional round, meeting the DeKalb winner. Concord and East Noble sectional champs meet on the opposite side of the draw. The winners from Bremen and Warsaw head to the Culver Academy regional, where the Warsaw winner will get the Peru winner, and the Bremen will meets the Culver Academy winner.
Culver Academy and Homestead are the northern semi-state hosts, and the IHSAA State Finals are Oct. 18-19 at three locations in and around Indianapolis.
