ARGOS 4, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2
In another matchup against a state-ranked opponent, No. 19 LCA hung tough with the No. 16 Dragons at their place before falling apart in the second half.
LCA led 2-1 at the half on goals from Micah Mansfield and Parker Stewart, Mansfield from Theran McKeever in the ninth minute and Stewart solo in the 36th.
But the Dragons answered with a pair of strikes from Lucas VanDerWeele on a penalty conversion in the 49th minute and his own doing in the 68th minute. Owen Nifong, who had Argos’ first goal, put the game on ice with a finish in the 72nd minute.
Remington Swanson was busy in net for the Cougars, making 12 saves in the loss. Colton Markley got the win with seven saves.
“We played a top 20 team in the state tonight and went toe to toe for much of the game,” stated LCA skipper Dan Miller. “However, a few breakdowns allowed Argos to win the game. I’m optimistic about our performance tonight, and I believe we can improve as the season continues.”
LCA sits at 5-2 overall and will head east to take on Lakewood Park Christian next Thursday.
MACONAQUAH 3, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 2
Valley fell just short of its first victory of the season, losing to the Braves in Three Rivers Conference action.
Maconaquah took a two-goal lead into the break, but Alex Aguilar got Valley on the board with a goal early in the second half. Maconaquah would strike back with a goal to pad its lead, and a Joel Cisneros finish left Valley a goal down with 20 minutes to go. A furious finish fell short, however, for the Vikings, which couldn’t get the equalizer as time expired.
Valley (0-5, 0-3 TRC) will play two games Saturday in the Plymouth Invite, facing South Bend Clay and Plymouth.
