LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 8, WAWASEE 2
LCA put the pressure on Wawasee early and built off it in a big win at home Thursday night.
The Calizo Connection stayed red hot with Tori Calizo scored on an assist from Jessi Calizo just three minutes into the match. Jessi would go on to score three goals and assist on two and Tori would assist on two more as LCA pulled away in the second half after taking a 4-2 lead to the break.
Lauren Starrett had two goals and Anna Reimink added two goals and an assist for the Cougars. Maddie Paris made five stops in the victory.
Natalie Winters notched her first goal of the season for the Lady Warriors and Sara Pritchard added a penalty conversion. Sam Kolberg faced 25 LCA shots, stopping 14 of them.
LCA (5-0-1) will visit Fort Wayne Fusion Sept. 4. Wawasee (1-5-1) will head to Goshen Saturday afternoon.
NORTHRIDGE 1, NORTHWOOD 0
In a matchup of state-ranked Northern Lakes Conference opponents, Northridge used an 18th minute goal from Ariana Stolzfus to edge the Lady Panthers.
Stolzfus scored the goal without an assist, sending the Class 3-A No. 7 Raiders (6-0-1) to its second win in the NLC.
NorthWood, in its second 1-0 loss in the NLC after losing to Warsaw by the same count a week ago, had Kira Robinson make 16 saves in the match to keep it close. Hope Stacker stopped NorthWood’s only two shots on target.
Northridge won the JV game 4-0.
Class 2-A No. 7 NorthWood (4-2, 0-2 NLC) take on Concord Tuesday afternoon.
HOMESTEAD 2, WARSAW 0
Another matchup of ranked powers conversed in Allen County, where Class 3-A No. 5 Homestead dropped Class 3-A No. 10 Warsaw.
Mary McArdle got the Spartans on the board during a counterattack, using a feed from Morgan Halliwill to beat keeper Kaylee Patton for a 1-0 lead in the second half. Halliwill got a goal later in the second half on a penalty kick to seal the win.
Patton made four saves for the Lady Tigers.
Warsaw (5-2) will take on Argos on Saturday.
