Some Warsaw Schools Without Power, Heat For Most Of Morning
WARSAW — Warsaw Community High School and some elementary schools were without power this morning, Dec. 7.
The central office would not specify which elementary schools were without power but stated that the schools were using their backup generators and there will be no cancellations at this time. It was unclear if the backup generators provided heat to the buildings as the high school office advised they did not currently have heat.
“All the students are safe and secure,” said the high school receptionist. “It’s not that cold here and we still have students coming to school without coats so they obviously aren’t concerned with the cold either.”
It was reported by a student that the high school students were told to sit in the school’s gym and sing Christmas carols since there was no power. At this time, many of the high school students who drove to school have left.
Superintendent David Hoffert’s sent out a tweet at 9:40 a.m. stating, “Electricity is back on! Thank you NIPSCO and KREMC for the work to get the power back up and going. Thanks all for your patience and understanding.”
