Claypool Council Approves New Ordinances
CLAYPOOL — The Claypool council approved two new ordinances at Monday night’s meeting.
The board discussed changes to an ATV ordinance that was given to attorney John Barrett to review last month. The changes will reclassify ATVs as off-road vehicles (ORVs). No ORVs will be allowed to operate within Claypool, unless used by law enforcement. Fines will be as follows: not more than $25 for first offense; not less than $25 and no more than $50 for second offense; not less than $50 and no more than $75 for third offense. Changes were approved by the board and given to Barrett to finalize.
The council also approved new city employee Standard Operating Procedures. All former regulations are void and the new standards will take effect this coming Monday, Sept. 26. Some changes are as follows:
- Vacation time and personal days must now be taken in four or eight hour increments. This will not effect the ability to take vacation time a week or more at a time.
- The work week is defined as Monday through Sunday, starting 12 midnight on Monday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
- Lunch will no longer be considered time worked.
- Vacation, bereavement, jury duty, and other like time off will no longer be considered time worked when considering comp time. If a week of vacation is taken, Monday through Friday, and an employee works Saturday it will therefore not be considered time and a half.
- Employees are expected to punch in and out on the time clock that will be provided and to keep track of abnormal events worked. Failure to use the time clock will result in disciplinary action.
Another coming change will be a new clothing policy that will allow up to $200 per employee per year for foul weather gear. This policy will begin with the 2017 budget.
Other business:
- Trick-or-treating will be 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
- Council reminds residents not to mow grass into streets as it causes drainage issues.
- Leaves – preferred method of pickup is to have leaves bagged.
- Brush and limbs – residents need to call the utilities or clerks office for pickup.
- Council asked Officer Chuck Lewallen to provide monthly reports on calls.
- Council approved new laptops for police vehicles.
- The administrative meeting to approve the 2017 budget was set for Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The next council meeting will be Monday, Oct. 17.
