Jennifer Tandy Resigns From School Board

President of the board of trustees, Jennifer Tandy, resigns.
WARSAW — After five years of serving on the board, Tandy gave her resignation, effective Oct. 1, at the Warsaw Community Schools Board meeting earlier this week.
During her five years as president, Tandy increased graduation retention rates, expanded language arts programs and increased involvement with STEM. Tandy promoted one-to-one technology and was a driving force in bring in creating the school mission statement states superintendent Dr. Hoffert.
The graduation rate at Warsaw Community High School is currently at 94 percent, whereas it was at 74 percent in 2008, before Tandy became president. Five years prior, Warsaw schools had little involvement with STEM, now Washington is in the process of building a STEM academy.
Hoffert explains that Tandy was an important part of moving Warsaw schools in the direction they needed to go. Hofferts says Tandy joined the board just as they were, “Looking for an accelerator.”
“She stepped into a time a of transition…she helped bring out school board together,” Hoffert added.
Tandy has been in the process of relocating to San Diego where her husband has gotten a new job. Because of the relocation, Tandy felt she would not be able to serve the board to the best of her abilities.
Vice President of the board of trustees, Mike Dick, will become the interim president, until the board decides on who will become the next president. Dick has had six years on the board. Hoffert mentioned two individuals have filled out applications to become the president. He added others have expressed interested in applying for the position.
Those interested in serving the remaining two years of Ms. Tandy’s term should submit a letter of interest to Superintendent David Hoffert, 1 Administration Drive, Warsaw, Indiana 46581 on or before Sept. 30. That letter of interest should explain why the candidate is interested in serving on the school board. Candidates must reside in School Board District 5, which consists generally of the Town of Winona Lake and the far east side of the City of Warsaw.
