Betty L. Zimmerman
Betty L. Zimmerman, 77, of Columbia City, died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at her home.
She was born Sept. 7, 1937 in Prestonsburg, Ky., a daughter of Richard and Aggie (Poe) Gibson. At the age of 14, her family moved to Kosciusko County. She graduated from Claypool High School.
On July 5, 1957 she was united in marriage to Gerald P. “Pete” Zimmerman. They made their home in Elkhart for nine months before moving to Fort Wayne. In 1977 they moved to Loon Lake and later Crooked Lake. In March 2013 they moved to their present home in Columbia City.
A homemaker, she also worked at Magnavox, Joemac Glove in Warsaw and Miller’s Merry Manor.
She was a member of the Women’s Thursday Bowling League at Main Bowl.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 58 years: Pete; three children: Samuel David (Dawn) Zimmerman, Carmel; Jacqueline Ann (James) White; and Laura Lynne (Greg) Bianski, all of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Rebecca Krotke, North Manchester; Joyce Arnett, Pierceton; and Dottie Teeter, North Manchester; and a brother: Charles Gibson, Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by twin infant sons: Peter and Paul; four brothers: Richard Gibson; Sam Gibson; James Gibson; and Arnold Gibson; and a sister: Jane Parsley.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. The visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
