American Legion, VFW Posts Hold Memorial Day Service At Oakwood Cemetery
WARSAW — Members of the John C. Peterson American Legion Post 49 and James W. Sittler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 conducted the annual Memorial Day service May 27 at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
The service began with a performance of patriotic songs by the Kosciusko County Extension Choir. After the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, a roll call of veterans who have passed away in the past year were read aloud.
American Legion Post Commander Bruce Knouff delivered the service’s address, discussing the story of Major Brent Taylor, who served as mayor of North Ogden, Utah, until November 2018, when he was killed while serving in Afghanistan. Taylor served two tours in Iraq.
“We will work to continue to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty by helping and caring for the life partners, the children, and the loved ones left behind that our heroes cared about the most,” said Knouff.
After the retiring of the colors, wreaths were presented at the three Legion Circles in the cemetery.
