Old Jail Museum Open For 2017, Accepting New Volunteers
WARSAW — The Old Jail Museum, located at 121 N Indiana St., Warsaw, is open for the 2017 season. During January and February the museum staff has been busy cleaning, preparing new displays and planning programs and activities. If you haven’t been to the museum recently, come on in to see what’s new. The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
The museum is also in need of volunteers to help with the many projects. One of the main projects this year is the scanning of the obituary collection which will be added to the Indiana State Historical Society’s collection. This is a long term project and the museum is looking for people who would like to help. The hours are flexible. Although it’s a simple procedure to scan an obituary and record it, many hands are needed to complete the task.
Also, the museum in need of tour guides for three hours on Saturdays, and to help with school tours and bus tours from other states on an as needed basis. No experience is needed. Museum staff will train volunteers on the old jail’s history and displays.
