Scary Picks From The Warsaw Community Public Library
By Melissa Chapman, Cataloging Supervisor
The Warsaw Community Public Library has many different scary movie genres to offer. I have chosen three new titles that might get your blood pumping.
There are new “Ghostbusters” in town and this time their female, with the exception of the male secretary! Same premise as the original…An investigatory lead up, paranormal shenanigans, corny jokes, with a save the world ending! My favorite is the cameos of ghosts and actors from the original masterpiece intermingled throughout the film. Though Melissa McCarthy is certainly noteworthy but rather subdued, it is Kate McKinnon who plays Holtzmann that steals the scenes. She is a glorious weirdo! So many critics poo-pooed this reboot, but I found it to be refreshing!
Are you a shark film fan? “The Shallows” is the ultimate shark movie. Nancy, played by Blake Lively decides to go to a remote beach in Mexico to reflect and mourn the death of her mother. An experienced surfer, Nancy wants to catch some waves and take solace in the ocean; however she accidently intrudes on a Great White Shark’s dinner plans with a whale carcass. Recognizing her mistake she heads for shore, which is only a couple hundred yards away. She is unable to make it but manages to climb on a small rock island after her leg has been bitten by the shark. Does she eventually make it to shore? Will someone come to the beach and save her? The tension will thrill you!
If you like to be scared and kept up at night then I would suggest “The Conjuring 2”. It’s terrifyingly scary. It is based on another true case file of Ed and Lorraine Warren and revolves around a family in London who is being haunted by a supernatural phenomenon that has been tormenting one of the children. The “Conjuring 2” is an incredibly rare example of a horror sequel that lives up to the original. The creepy nun character is enough to keep you sleepless, long after the film is over. The film runs a little long 2 hours and 14 minutes, but nevertheless there really isn’t a dull moment!
