MILFORD — News and upcoming events from Milford Public Library:
Winter Preschool Story Time
This week’s preschool story time theme is penguins and polar bears. Join staff at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, or 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25. Preschool story time is for children ages 3-6. Staff will read “My Pet Polar Bear” by Mark Iacolina, “Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice” by Steve Metzger, and “Where is home, Little Pip?” by Jane Chapman. After listening to stories, the children will have a chance to get messy making a shaving cream paper plate polar bear. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy. After we wash up, it’s snack time. Make an Oreo penguin for snack. See you there for our fourth week of story time.
Adult Reading Club
Adults age 18 and up can register to participate in our annual adult reading program. Stop by the adult circulation desk for program information. For each book you read, or book-on-compact disk you listen to, you can put your name in for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. Each Friday, the library will draw a name out of the bowl, and that person will win a prize. Prizes are donated by local sponsors and will be displayed prior to being given away. The program ends on Thursday, March 31. Winter is a wonderful time to curl up with a good book. We have new books arrive every week, so come in and check us out.
Balance and Stability Program
Join us for a balance and stability program, presented by Tami Pavel, certified personal trainer at Lakeside Fitness, as part of our adult reading program. Everyone is invited to attend. Pavel will be presenting the program in our meeting room at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29. Come ready to learn from Tami about improving your balance and coordination, proper posture and breathing, and core muscle strength and stability.
Sentimental Productions Video Magazine Available
The winter edition of Sentimental Reflections is now available at the library. The Library owns several issues of this video magazine produced by Sentimental Productions. The 2015 winter edition’s story titles include: “Carnegie’s Libraries,” “Along the Ohio River,” “On a Musical Note: Riders in the Sky,” “Off the Beaten Path: Bardstown, Kentucky” and the seasonal feature, “Images of Dickens’ Time.”
Also available to check out are video magazines that include information on the world’s largest toy museum, Johnny Appleseed, remembering the 1950s, Scott Joplin Festival and Flag Day’s origins. The video magazine is wonderful for all ages, but especially of interest to seniors. Each DVD is 45 minutes long.
If you enjoy the video magazine, the library also has the documentary films, “The Signs and Rhymes of Burma- Shave,” “Dream Trains: short hops and whistle stops,” “Roadsters, Rumbleseats, and country drives” or “Twentieth Century Flashbacks, The Homefront 1941-1945,” all produced by Sentimental Productions.
