Jackson, Clark Choose To Be Titans
SOUTH BEND – A pair of Kosciusko County high school basketball stars will join forces on the college hardcourt next fall.
Warsaw senior Rashaan Jackson, a 6-3 guard/forward, and Wawasee senior Alex Clark, also a 6-3 combo guard, have both chosen to sign on with Indiana University South Bend to continue their basketball and academic careers.
Clark averaged 15 points and four rebounds per game for Wawasee as a senior. Clark, often double-teamed as a prime scoring threat in coach Steve Wiktorowski’s offense, helped Wawasee to 13 wins and a sectional finals appearance. Clark finished his career with 967 points.
“Alex is a kid with a lot of potential,” stated IUSB men’s basketball head coach Scott Cooper. “He is a physically strong guard who can score a lot of different ways. His high school team was very young this year, and as a result he was asked to do a lot of different things for them which helped him grow a lot as a player. He is a good player right now, but we think his best years are still ahead of him.
“He is a high-character kid, and a very good student in the classroom,” Cooper continued. “As he grows in our program, I think he will have a very good four years here, and help make us a better team.”
Jackson was a huge part of an 18-5 season for the Tigers that included a Northern Lakes Conference championship. Jackson averaged nine points and three rebounds per contest and led the Tigers in steals in the defensive-minded scheme of coach Doug Ogle.
“Rashaan is a very good addition to our program,” said Cooper. “He is a very strong, athletic, perimeter player that can score off the dribble, shoot the three, and has the potential to be a great defender. His size, athleticism, and skill set will allow him to play a few different positions, and we are looking forward to seeing how many ways we can take advantage of his versatility over the next four years.
“He is also an outstanding student, and a great kid who we think will help make our program better on and off the court.”
The Titans went 12-19 last season and were 6-13 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. IUSB is an NAIA program. The Titans already boast a roster with area players Riley Stichter, a Wawasee graduate, and Samuel Wilson from Benton Home School.
