Leesburg Approves Equipment Purchase, Upcoming Event Dates
The Leesburg Town Council met yesterday evening for its monthly board meeting and approved the purchase of new equipment for the town as well as setting important dates for the upcoming Memorial Day parade, town clean up and town-wide garage sale.
During his monthly report, Brandon Queen, Leesburg street commissioner, discussed the status of equipment. According to Queen, the town’s chainsaw, which is partially used for clearing fallen trees and debris following storms, is currently 13 years old and has a broken brake.
The council unanimously voted for the replacement of the equipment, which was deemed a safety hazard. Queen stated he would purchase a new 20 inch chainsaw from Gilsinger’s, located in Leesburg, for $419. Moore noted Queen needed to ensure that the old, broken equipment was no longer utilized as it is a liability to the town.
In other news, Sue Charlton approached the council with the request to utilize the town hall and streets for the annual Memorial Day parade on May 25. The council approved Charlton’s request and commended her for her continued work and enthusiasm toward the event.
“We certainly appreciate not only your interest in doing this but your zeal in doing it,” noted Leesburg Town Council President Tom Moore.
In addition to the parade, the council also approved the dates for the annual town clean up and town-wide garage sale. The sale will take place June 19 to June 20 with the town clean up occurring on June 26 and 27.
