WHS Student Earns First Microsoft Certification
As part of the Microsoft IT Academy, a pilot program this year in a select group of schools across Indiana, Wawasee High School senior Jordan Amick became the first Wawasee student to earn a Microsoft certification. Amick, a computer science major who hopes to attend Ball State University, earned his certification in Microsoft Word or more specifically, Office Word 2010.
There are 89 schools in Indiana participating in Microsoft IT Academy, a program allowing students to test and earn certifications in the various Microsoft Office components of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Business teacher Elizabeth Long administers the program at WHS.
Amick began the process of earning his certification in November. Testing and earning a certification is no easy task as it requires passing a test approximately one hour long. He is also working on earning a certification in Excel and hopes to have it completed in April after spring break.
He commented the Microsoft IT Academy has helped him in his overall understanding of Word and it has “widened my view in technology.”
