Lapsit
Did you have fun at Lapsit last week? Come join us on Tuesday for our third week of Spring Lapsit! We’re singing songs, reading short stories, and having fun with all sorts of Piggies! Come and join us in the meeting room at 11 a.m. on April 22. Lapsit is intended for infants to 36 months. Walk-ins are welcome.
Spring Story Time
Five little ducks went out to play … where’d they go? Story time, of course! At this week’s story time, hear all about ducks!
Come help Miss Heidi figure out whether the drawing in the book Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Rosenthal is actually a duck or a rabbit. We’ll paint rubber duckies to take home for bath time, make duck puppets and have cupcakes! We might even try walking like ducks, so make sure to practice your waddle!
Story time is an excellent way to teach young children early literary and social skills. Story time takes place in the meeting room on Wednesday’s at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., as well as Thursdays at 7 p.m.
After School Is Cool: Tuesdays
Join Miss Heidi at this week’s After School Is Cool for another fun board game day! Choose from a pile of board games, grab a bag of popcorn and some friends, and start having fun! Learn a new game, or play an old favorite. From Candy Land to Battleship, there is a great game for everyone!
Special After School is Cool
During next week’s After School Is Cool, April 29, we are going to have a Lego club day! Duane Herendeen from Warsaw Community Library is going to bring us thousands of Legos for your use and creation! All Lego lovers are welcome and, believe me, you are going to have a fantastic time. So mark your calendars for 3:30 p.m. on March 25 and join us for a library Lego takeover!
Fantastic Freegal
People are finding out about Freegal and downloading free music weekly! Have you been missing out? Come in to the library and find out how to download free music, available through the Milford Library website. Don’t be left out! Join the other smart patrons who are downloading free songs and music videos every week.
National Poetry Month
In case you didn’t know, April is National Poetry Month! Poems can be silly, romantic, mysterious, serious, chilling, and fantastic. If you don’t have time to read a book, pick up a book of poetry and read a poem every once and awhile! Here are some favorite poets whose works we have here at the library.
Shel Silverstein
This brilliant, well-known writer has several incredible poem books. His work can be both silly and sentimental. It’s hard to read just one poem at a time! Check out The Missing Piece, Falling Up, Where the Sidewalk Ends, or another Silverstein work for some entertaining reading.
Maya Angelou
With poems that focus on many social issues and touch the heart, Maya Angelou is a well-known name. Arguably her most famous work, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, is available at the library, along with many other poems by Angelou.
Walt Whitman
If you’re in the mood for something a little more romantic, check out Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass which revolves around the beauties of each season. There are also several ebooks by Whitman available through the library.
These are just a few of the poetic works that sit on the shelves of the library. Check out both the Adult Department and the Children’s Department for poem-filled books that will help you celebrate poetry along with the rest of the nation!
