Spring Themes for Story Times
Looking for a free activity to do with your children that gets you out of the house? The Syracuse Library is offering story times at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays for the next 8 weeks.
Age appropriate story times help build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. They provide a fun atmosphere and safe environment for parents and children to bond and share time at the library.
The hour includes read-aloud stories, finger plays, special guests, songs and puppets. Preschool-age children are invited to come to any of the Monday and Tuesday story times.
Children’s Book Club
It is time for a St. Paddy’s Party! Young readers are invited to come to a festive book club at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. Children from kindergarten to fifth grade are welcome to join in the food, games, stories and music of Ireland.
One Book, One Hour
The adult book club is meeting Wednesday, March 12, to talk about the book, Travels With Charley, a travelogue written by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck won a Pulitzer for Grapes of Wrath in 1942.
In 1962 Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Travels With Charley (1960) and Winter of Our Discontent (1961) were his last two books. Steinbeck died of heart failure in 1968 as a result of his lifelong smoking addiction and heavy drinking habit. Decaf is served and the group, as always, welcomes new members. The discussion begins at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Call the NWPL with questions at 574-457-3022.
