Wawasee Competitive At North Side Relays
FORT WAYNE – Wawasee put together a positive showing Saturday morning at the Fort Wayne North Side Relays.
Taking fifth in the team standings with 81 total points, Wawasee was just seven points back of Fort Wayne Wayne for third place. Homestead claimed the championship with 147 points with Fort Wayne Northrop second at 107 points. Indianapolis North Central were fourth at 83 points. Northern Lakes Conference mates Concord were 10th in the 13-team field with 52 points.
Most events had a weighted two-heat sequence, to which Wawasee had eight relays or individuals land within the top three of their respective events.
The 4×100 relay team of Clayton Cook, JJ Gilmer, Michael Pena and Tyler Courter were first with a time of 44.53, which was the second-fastest time overall to Homestead’s 43.72. Cook, Gilmer, Courter and Jake Hutchinson were third in the 4×200 relay at 1:35.02.
Jon Walker won his heat of the discus with a toss of 136’02” while teammate Ethan Brown threw his disc 142’10” for third in the second heat. Pole vaulter Kevin Carpenter was second with a height of 11’00”.
Cook was second in the 300 hurdles at 40.33 and second in the 110 hurdles at 15.25, losing by .01 to Jordan Davis of Homestead, who also won the 300 hurdles at 39.50.
The distance medley team of Adam Doll, Austin Yoder, Zach Cockrill and Jaxon Bame were second at 11:30.00.
Wawasee will next perform Thursday when it hosts Plymouth in NLC competition.
