Stookey Tabbed For All-Star Game
MISHAWAKA – The Warsaw boys basketball program, as well as the Northern Lakes Conference, will be well-represented in the third annual McDonald’s Michiana High School All-Star Game.
The boys roster were released today for the third annual event which will include a girls/boys doubleheader on Monday, March 31 in the Wiekamp Center on the Bethel College campus.
Chosen to take part in the boys game is Warsaw senior standout Jordan Stookey. The talented guard earned All-NLC honors this season after leading coach Doug Ogle’s team in scoring. Warsaw, which won a sectional title in 2013 behind heroics from Stookey, finished 11-10 this season.
Stookey will play for the McDonald’s Gray team, which will be coached by former South Bend Riley coach Bob Berger.
Joining Stookey on the Gray team will be Jonathan Wilkinson of Class 3-A sectional champion NorthWood, along with Penn junior guard Jordan Geist and Concord junior center Filip Serwatka of Class 4-A sectional champion Concord. Geist led the No. 6 Kingsmen to the Class 4-A regional title game at Michigan City this past Saturday night before coach Al Rhodes’ team lost 57-55 to No. 8 Lake Central.
The Gray roster also includes Blake Berger (LaVille), Devin Cannady (Mishawaka Marian), Jamere Washington (South Bend Riley), Gage Ott (LaPorte), Terry Davis Jr. (South Bend Adams), Martavious Richmond (South Bend Clay) and Nick Jeffrs (Crown Point).
The McDonald’s Red team will feature former NorthWood teammates Zach Zurcher and Will Stueve. The Red team, which will be coached by former South Bend Clay coach Tom Hess, will have plenty of NLC flavor with Nate Richie of league champion Northridge, Ramon Johnson of Concord and Mack Mercer of Plymouth.
The Red team roster also includes Bill Doslak (Penn), Josh Fleming (LaPorte), Mike Bush (South Bend Adams), Ryan Kuperschmid (Elkhart Christian), Ryan Woebbe (South Bend St. Joseph), Tra’veon Johnson (South Bend Washington) and Trent Elliott (Culver).
The honorary assistant coach for the Red team will be former Elkhart Memorial coach and athletic director Jim Powers, who played for legendary coach John Wooden at South Bend Central.
The girls game will tip-off at 5 p.m. on March 31 with the boys contest to follow at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Tickets for the games are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free.
