The siren of the fire engine sounded the start of the Milford Kiwanis Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30, as over 50 kids participated in the annual Easter event at the Milford Elementary School.
“I think it was very successful.” Doug Strycker said of the Kiwanis Club of Milford. “We’re thankful for the weather. It’s always fun to watch the kids at the egg hunt.”
The Milford Fire Department escorted the Easter Bunny to the school who posed for photos with the egg hunters. Beck Alles played the part wearing the Easter Bunny costume.
“We very much thank the Milford Fire Department. They come out every year and bring the Easter Bunny and the kids enjoy the fire engine,” Strycker said.
A thousand eggs were placed in the two fields by the school with one field designated for younger kids. Each egg had candy and a quarter inside as a prize.
Students at the elementary school assisted in filling the eggs. Each child was able to come away with about 20 eggs each.
“We enjoy filling the eggs with the fifth graders at the school. Just seeing the little kids finding the eggs and having fun,” Strycker said.
At North Webster
Also on Saturday, the North Webster Lions Club had its egg hunt on the little league fields in town.
“It’s been many years we’ve been doing this,” Lions Club member Greg Stamp said. “We started before I was a member. I don’t even know how many years its been.”
The North Webster Lions Club donated over $300 in cash prizes spread out over five fields. Each field had a different age group participating.
Rainy conditions began to clear up once the egg hunt was set to start at North Webster.
The Lions Club colored the over 500 eggs donated by Creighton Brothers.
“It’s fun seeing the kids run around,” Stamp said. “I’ve helped out a few times with the little kids and its funny to watch them. They go around with the parents.”
