Area Zoos Gear Up For Next Phase Of Reopening

FORT WAYNE – July 4 is set as the reopening date for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, while Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend continues to operate.
During the month of July, Fort Wayne Zoo hours will be noon to 7 p.m., with no timed ticket required during this time. The zoo will continue to keep social distancing measures in place and zoo staff members will continue to wear face coverings. Though face coverings are not mandatory for guests at this time, it is suggested.
Zoo members will have exclusive access from 9-11:30 a.m. July 4 – July 31 daily with free timed tickets, available at kidszoo.org. Members can also visit from noon to 7 p.m. with no timed ticket necessary.
The zoo’s opening plan includes asking all guests to stay at home if you or anyone a party feels sick, stay 6 feet apart to abide by social distancing guidelines. It is suggested that guests wear face coverings during a zoo visit.
Visitors who are 65 years of age or older, or individuals who are medically vulnerable to COVID-19 should ensure they take measures to be safe and not subject themselves to the risks this virus could pose.
The Potowatomi Zoo in South Bend reopened back on June 19, with a strong focus on timed entry.
“The Potawatomi Zoo takes the health of our staff, animals and visitors very seriously. Special precautions and modifications to how we operate have been made to keep our visitors healthy and safe. Changes based on CDC recommended guidelines have been instituted across the zoo. It is the expectation that all visitors will follow these guidelines to ensure the health and safety of everyone visiting the zoo.” said officials in a statement.
