Hunter Receives Jail Time After Violating Court Order
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced to 180 days in the Kosciusko County Jail after violating a court order.
On Monday, Oct. 9, Cameron Douglas Hunter, 18, appeared in Kosciusko Superior Court 1 for a hearing on information in contempt and rule to show cause.
Hunter is facing a charge of sexual battery, a level 6 felony, due to events that occurred Sept. 8, 2016.
Judge David Cates rejected Hunter’s plea agreement on Oct. 2, in part due to the fact that Hunter had not been accepted into any community corrections program, a requirement of the plea agreement.
Deputy Prosecutor Katy Hampton filed a motion to amend information to add an additional charge of child molesting, a level 4 felony. According to information found in court documents, Hunter has been arrested and charged with additional criminal activity, including possession of marijuana, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of paraphernalia.
At Hunter’s court hearing on Sept. 21, he was advised that as a condition of his pre-trial release, he was not to be present at any location where anyone under the age of 18 was physically present.
Immediately following the hearing, Hunter left the courthouse and got into a vehicle with two individuals, both of whom were under the age of 18.
Cates found Hunter to be in contemptuous disobedience of the court order, sentencing him to serve 180 days in the custody of the Kosciusko County Sheriff, to be served without good time jail credit.
Hunter’s attorney, Dana Leon, informed Cates she wanted to appeal the ruling, requesting that another attorney handle the appeal. Attorney David Kolbe has been appointed to represent Hunter in the appeal process.
Hunter has been scheduled for a pretrial conference at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 29, 2018, with a two-day jury trial to take place at 9 a.m. March 13.
