Warsaw Sports Wrap: Sept. 8
Girls Golf
The Warsaw girls golf team went 1-1 in a non-conference triangular Thursday.
Huntington North shot 191 to edge the Tigers by just one stroke in action at the Stonehenge Golf Club. Manchester shot 200.
Madi Graham of the Tigers was medalist on the day with a 41.
Page Desenberg shot a 47 and Madelyn Ray a 48 for Warsaw. Delaney Wihebrink carded a 56 and Izzy Ray a 57.
Amara Eckert led Huntington North with a 44. Lydia Little topped Manchester with a 47.
Warsaw, which is 8-6 on the season, will compete in the NLC Championships Saturday at McCormick Creek in Nappanee. The Tigers then host their own sectional at Stonehenge on Sept. 17.
Huntington North topped Warsaw 207-232 in junior varsity action. Miriam Haag led Warsaw with a 49. Grayson Kilburn shot a 56, while Valerie Messmore had a 63, Madison Martz a 64 and Julia Hildebrand a 69 for Warsaw.
Jacklyn Boyd of Huntington North was JV medalist with a 46.
The Warsaw junior varsity finishes its season at 13-1.
Boys Tennis
The Warsaw boys tennis team came up on the short end of a tough 3-2 loss at Fort Wayne Canterbury.
Host Canterbury rallied to win two of the three matches that went three sets on the night to earn the non-conference win.
Andrew Gauger and David Homme won in singles action for the Tigers. Gauger rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 singles and Homme posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles play.
Rohan Pamidi of Canterbury rallied to top Colton Lind 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. The Canterbury No. 1 doubles team of Evan Gize and Arnie Lal beat Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The team of Graham Gnagy and Shaffer Garrett of Canterbury topped Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles action.
Warsaw, now 6-4 on the season, hosts its own invitational on Saturday.
The Warsaw JV team beat Canterbury 9=2. Winning in singles play for the JV Tigers were Bailey Buhrt, Kyler Bartol and Brian Elliott. Winning in doubles action for Warsaw were the teams of Reuben Williams and Ethan Hoff, Caleb Williams and Brandon Chan, Jake Kauffman and Jarett Orr, Kanton Waddle and Hawkins Ragland, Dawson Villama and Noah Hutton and Nick Marsh and Garrett Rodgers.
Boys Soccer
The Warsaw boys soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to Class 2-A No. 13 Penn.
The non-conference match was a rescheduled contest that was postponed due to weather last month.
Eric O’cock scored the lone goal for the host Tigers to tie the match a 1-1.
Warsaw drops to 2-5-2 on the season, while Penn improves to 7-0-2.
Penn defeated Warsaw 3-2 in a freshman match. Max Bradley and Dayne Koontz scored for Warsaw.
Warsaw plays at Valparaiso Saturday.
