Cholene M. Anderson
Cholene M. Anderson, 82, a resident of Merriam and wife of Herbert E. Anderson, Sr., passed away at 12:32 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, after becoming ill unexpectedly at her home.
Mrs. Anderson was born on Sept. 21, 1933, in Green Township, a daughter of Ira S. and Helen E. (Gay) Schlotterback. As a child she moved with her parents to Merriam, where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1951 and was a lifelong resident of Noble Township.
Employed as a study hall monitor for many years, she worked at both Wolf Lake and Central Noble High Schools. She was employed at Dana Corporation in Albion for a short period, and retired as an inspector from BRC in Churubusco in 1995.
A cancer survivor, she was active in the Noble County Relay for Life, and was a lifelong member of the Merriam Christian Chapel. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching NASCAR, was known as “Mom” to countless children of the community, and most especially loved and cherished her family and friends.
On July 11, 1953 she was married in Merriam to Herbert E. Anderson, Sr. He survives.
Other surviving relatives include her seven children: Herbert (Barbara) Anderson Jr.; Edward (Judy) Anderson, both of Albion; Richard “Rick” (Linda) Anderson, LaOtto; Brenda (David) Buchmeier; David (Kandy) Anderson, both of Albion; Frances (James) Heintzelman, Cromwell; Daniel (Tina) Anderson, Albion; four brothers: Ira “Skip” (Martha) Schlotterback, Albion; Rodger (Geraldine) Schlotterback, Sarasota, Fla.; Terry (Mary) Schlotterback; and Kent (Patty) Schlotterback, both of Albion; three sisters: Joann Weber, Hagerstown; Linda (Jim Sr.) Norris, Columbia City; Sandra (Dick) Goldner, Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law: Doris Schlotterback, Sarasota, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister: Luella Kissinger; by two brothers: Sterle Schlotterback; and Tom Schlotterback; and a daughter-in-law: Claire Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. John French, pastor of the Merriam Christian Chapel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning.
Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
