Bashor Children’s Home Looking For Applicants To Help Care For More Kids
GOSHEN — There has been a concern over the care of homeless kids in Elkhart County.
The Elkhart Community School Corporation reports that as many as 207 kids do not have a permanent address, and Bashor Children’s Home is looking to change that.
They are renovating a facility on the north edge of the property to be a 24-hour care facility with five bedrooms that can house up to 12 kids.
They estimate that they will take in 125 kids a year and are hoping to have it up and running by April 1.
Don Phillips, president and CEO of Bashor Children’s Home, said, “Most of the kids are going to come in having been in real difficult situations, traumatic situations, and are going to need feel safe and secure and nurtured – that they are cared about and that their lives matter.”
“Hopefully from that brief experience with us that they have some sense that their life can be turned around with some effort and support from the community,” Phillips continued, “and so they leave from here knowing that their life does matter.”
Organizers say the biggest hurdle they face now is finding people to staff the home.
They are looking for people who are patient, caring, and passionate about helping children.
If you are interested in becoming a staff member, you can apply online at bashor.org or contact Human Resources at (574) 875-5117.
