Staff Report
ROCHESTER – An Akron man was arrested for allegedly resisting law enforcement with the use of a vehicle causing severe bodily injury.

Jason Ryan Brown
Jason Ryan Brown, 19, 101 W. Rochester St., Akron, is charged with two counts of resisting law enforcement, both level 5 felonies; criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a level 6 felony; operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and consuming alcohol as a minor, a class C misdemeanor.
On Jan. 6, a deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was traveling north on SR 25 in Rochester when they observed a silver vehicle traveling south at 112 miles an hour. The deputy activated their emergency lights to slow the vehicle, and when they turned around, the silver vehicle did not slow or brake. The vehicle continued southbound on SR 25, passing another deputy and an Indiana State Police trooper at over 100 miles an hour.
The silver vehicle continued into Cass County, and the officers in pursuit advised officers in Cass County of the speeding vehicle. Officers deployed stop sticks, but the silver vehicle continued south, eventually colliding with another vehicle. The subject exited the silver vehicle, and officers gave them loud, verbal commands. The subject, identified as Brown, was taken into custody.
Upon being taken into custody, officers located THC vapes on Brown’s person. He was transported to Parkview Hospital in Logansport, and an officer read Brown his Miranda Rights while sitting in the back of the ambulance. Brown stated he understood and told officers that he was intoxicated. Brown told officers that he smoked marijuana and drank half a bottle of Jack Daniels.
While at the hospital, Brown told medical staff he did not know why he ran, and that he was going to continue until he ran out of gas.
The driver of the other vehicle Brown hit was also taken to Parkview Hospital, and officers are unsure of the injuries they sustained in the crash.
Brown’s initial hearing will take place in Cass County at 1 p.m. Jan. 22.
