TOWN OF SILVER LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER PROJECT
USDA NOTICE OF INTENT TO BORROW FUNDS / PUBLIC HEARING
On or about January 15, 2026, the Town of Silver Lake intends to apply for a federal loan via USDA’s Rural Development Community Facilities Loan/Grant Program. These funds are to be used for community development projects that benefit rural populations and improve their quality of life. Silver Lake’s project will entail the construction of new 11,500 s.f. community center to serve the residents. This facility will house a multi-purpose meeting room, exercise/gymnasium spaces, computer lab area, outdoor space, kitchen and restrooms.
The total estimated project costs, including construction and non-construction items, is $3.0 million. The Town of Silver Lake intends to borrow approximately $1.0 million from USDA. The remaining $2.0 million will come from acquired grants via OCRA, ORIE, K21 Health Foundation, Dekko Foundation, Kosciusko County Community Foundation.
The Town of Silver Lake will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the Silver Lake Town Hall, located at 604 N. Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, Indiana, to provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views and ask questions regarding the proposed federally funded project. Persons with disabilities or non-English speaking persons who wish to attend the public hearing and need assistance should contact Tonya L. Conley, Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer at (260) 352-2120 not later than Monday, January 12, 2026. Every effort will be made to make reasonable accommodation for these persons.
Information related to this project will be available for review prior to the public hearing as of January 5, 2026 at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office located at 604 N. Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, Indiana between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Citizens are invited to provide comments regarding these issues either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Written comments should be submitted to Tonya L. Conley, Clerk-Treasurer, 604 N. Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, Indiana 46982, no later than Monday, January 12, 2026 , to ensure placement of such comments in the official record of the public hearing proceedings.
A plan to minimize displacement and provide assistance to those displaced has been prepared by Town of Silver Lake and is also available to the public. However, this project will result in no displacement of any persons or businesses.
