SYRACUSE — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana is the newest member of the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce.
This year, BBBS has served 178 children for the year through its community and school programs. There are currently 141 children matched with a Big Brother or Big
Sister with 65 waiting to be matched.
BBBS offers volunteers a variety of ways to be involved. Its site-based program includes lunch buddies where a Big Brother or Big Sister will visit their “little” at school during lunch once a week.
The community-based program is where a Big Brother or Big Sister will spend time with their “little” outside the school setting.
BBBS has just added a high school leadership program where high school students mentor elementary school students. So far, 10 Wawasee High School students have signed up for the program.
Kosciusko County is served by Big Brothers Big Sisters Fort Wayne regional office; however, there is a satellite office in the area which has a team of four working in the county.
For more information or to apply to be a Big Brother or Big Sister, call Tammy Smith, community development director for Kosciusko County, at (574) 306-2178
