More Information Filed On Man Facing Three Attempted Murder Charges In Wabash County
Staff Report
WABASH – An affidavit of probable cause has detailed information on an officer-involved shooting that occurred in 2024 in Wabash County.
Jacob S. Slocum, 37, Fort Wayne, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, all level 1 felonies; unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a level 4 felony; pointing a firearm at a person, a level 6 felony; criminal recklessness, a level 5 felony; and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of an offense.
On Dec. 3, 2024, Indiana State Police were requested to assist with a SWAT response at a North Manchester residence.
According to court documents, on Dec. 2, 2024, a trooper was performing security at a Meijer store in Fort Wayne when he responded to a possible theft report. Slocum was identified as the suspect. When the trooper ordered Slocum to not leave the store, Slocum allegedly pointed a handgun at the trooper and left the area.
As a result of this incident, law enforcement made efforts to locate Slocum and went to his residence in Wabash County. Officers signaled their presence with emergency lighting and a public announcement speaker. A flashbang was also detonated at both the home’s front and back doors. After not receiving a response, officers used a ram on a SWAT vehicle to push open the residence’s front door.
Upon doing this, two volleys of gunfire were heard and believed to be in the direction of the ram, as bullets could be heard striking it. One trooper was directly behind the SWAT vehicle’s bullet-resistant windshield at the time.
A second trooper spent several hours talking to Slocum via cellphone, attempting to get him to exit the home and surrender peacefully.
When the troopers deployed tear gas at the residence, additional gunfire was heard, which struck an armored vehicle driven by another state trooper. When another trooper took a position in a turret atop an armored vehicle, Slocum allegedly shot at the trooper as he was in the turret. The trooper in the turret returned fire, at which point Slocum ceased shooting at law enforcement.
Officers were eventually able to make entry into the home and used a K9 to drag Slocum out of the residence.
Slocum has prior convictions from Florida, including robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, and burglary.
On Dec. 4, 2024, a woman who lived across the street said her child found a bullet on their bedroom floor. It was determined this bullet came from Slocum’s firearm while he was shooting at police.
Slocum is currently incarcerated in the Allen County Jail. A warrant was issued for Slocum’s arrest on the Wabash County charges on Oct. 21, 2025.
