Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 7:13 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, East Armstrong Road, east of North CR 75E, Leesburg. Drivers: Bruce J. Stookey, 70, Copeland Street, Warsaw; and Steven E. Wood, 57, Smith Street, Leesburg. Stookey’s vehicle turned in front of Wood’s emergency vehicle as he attempted to pass. Wood is a Plain Township firefighter who was on his way to a smoke investigation. His vehicle had its lights and siren on. Wood was taken to the hospital via ambulance per protocol. Stookey complained of chest pain and was also taken to the hospital via ambulance. Damages estimated up to $50,000.
- 1:18 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, SR 13, at East CR 800N, Syracuse. Drivers: Spencer R. Seip, 36, Bent Willow Drive, Fort Wayne; and Elias Martinez Banda, 59, East Kercher Road, Goshen. Martinez Banda slowed to turn, and Seip did not initially notice and did not slow down. Seip then attempted to pass Martinez Banda from the right when he realized collision was imminent and side-swiped Martinez Banda’s vehicle. Seip was taken to Parkview Kosciusko Hospital for evaluation. Damages estimated up to $25,000.
- 10:11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 1600 E. 200N, Warsaw. Driver: Paul M. Thompson, 49, Jenna Street, South Whitley. Thompson’s vehicle backed into an unoccupied, parked vehicle while attempting to back out of a parking spot. Damages estimated up to $5,000.
- 7:11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, US 30, east of North CR 700W, Warsaw. Driver: Amber Kreft, 37, South Washington Street, Bourbon. Kreft’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
- 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, North CR 800W, south of West CR 640N, Etna Green. Driver: Corbett Frazier, 62, Briar Ridge Circle, Warsaw. Frazier’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $25,000.
- 7:42 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, East Hatchery Road, east of Denzel Drive, Syracuse. Driver: Michael MacDonald, 56, North Turkey Creek Road, Syracuse. MacDonald’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $2,500.
- 2:51 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, US 30, at Mill Street, Pierceton. Drivers: Austin Moreno, 26, Riverton Drive, Fort Wayne; and Elexa N. Hickey, 20, East Walnut Street, Warsaw. Moreno’s vehicle struck Hickey’s vehicle while merging from the left lane to the right lane on the highway. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
- 3:38 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, East Old Road 30, east of SR 13, Pierceton. Drivers: Josh A. Cripe, 44, North Line Street, South Whitley; and Caleb L. Mikesell, 27, Westgate Avenue, Plymouth. Cripe’s vehicle drifted over the center line, striking Mikesell’s vehicle. Damages estimated up to $2,500.
- 3:17 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, East CR 1200N, at North CR 450E, Syracuse. Driver: Josslyn A. Ducheteau, 16, North Lincoln Road, Syracuse. Ducheteau looked away from the road. When she looked back, she saw the car in front of her had its brake lights on. Ducheteau hit the brakes and swerved to avoid a collision with the other vehicle and struck a boulder. Ducheteau’s vehicle flipped on its side. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
- 7:24 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, East Pierceton Road, west of East Washington Road, Pierceton. Driver: William A. Becker, 61, East Shore Lane, Culver. Becker’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
- 9:56 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, West CR 400N, at SR 15, Warsaw. Drivers: Amanda L. Kates, 43, West State Road 14, Akron; and Wilson Yoder, 26, CR 40, Millersburg. Yoder’s vehicle slowed because of the vehicle in front of him. Kates’ shoe fell off, and Kates was attempting to put it back on when it became stuck on the accelerator, causing her vehicle to hit Yoder’s. Damages estimated up to $2,500.
- 6:13 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, West Crystal Lake Road, east of South CR 400W, Warsaw. Drivers: Gerard R. Rigby Pineer, 45, Vandever Street, Warsaw. Rigby Pineer’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $5,000.
- 3:57 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 6500 W. Shilling Road, Mentone. Driver: Ruben J. Rico-Nunez, 19, North Franklin Street, Mentone. Rico-Nunez went too fast around a curve and went off the road, hitting a barn. Damages estimated up to $5,000.
- 3:34 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 900 S. 250E, Warsaw. Driver: Cammy J. Whitaker, 63, East Pierceton Road, Warsaw. Whitaker’s vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle while attempting to park in a driveway. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
Elkhart County
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accident:
- 3:52 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, CR 142 and CR 23, New Paris. Drivers: Jacob Jeckert, 23, Syracuse; and Pierceton Haviland, 25, Elkhart. Jeckert failed to yield the right of way to Haviland’s vehicle. Haviland attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to. Haviland complained of head pain and was taken to Goshen Hospital. Jeckert was cited for disregarding a stop sign.
