News Release
WARSAW – The annual Veterans Day program will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Ave., Warsaw, in the chapel beginning at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The public is cordially invited to attend and thank veterans that day.Â
Originally called Armistice Day, the date was set aside to remember the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918. It was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 and has been observed in Warsaw in some fashion for 107 years.
The speaker for the event will be Tim Boone, PhD, whose military service was in the U.S. Army from 1965-1976. Boone served in Special Forces in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and 1969-1970. His awards include Combat Infantryman Badge, two Bronze Stars, three Air Medals (V), Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese and Thai awards and Master Parachutist Badges. He was discharged in 1976 as a Captain.Â
The program is sponsored by American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126. A gathering with a light lunch will be held for all veterans at the American Legion Post 49, 301 N. Buffalo St., Warsaw, following the program. For more information go to Facebook at AL49Warsaw.
