COLUMBIA CITY – A Columbia City man was arrested for allegedly failing to update his residency information as required through the sex offender registry.
Rex A. Hull, 72, 3630 E. 600N, Columbia City, is charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a level 6 felony.
On Oct. 8, law enforcement went to perform a home visit on Hull, a local registered sex offender in Whitley County. When officers went to the address on file for Hull, a woman at the residence said Hull no longer lived there and that she was the new property owner as of Oct. 2.
According to court documents, the woman said Hull told her he was going to move to Florida. She also said Hull left behind almost all of his belongings at the home.
In a phone conversation, Hull told police he was temporarily staying at a relative’s home in Whitley County. Officers went to the residence, where they located Hull and took him into custody. Hull told police he was complacent on his part for not contacting police after selling his residence. He said he had a lot going on and wanted to move to Florida as soon as he could.
Hull was convicted in the State of Florida of attempted sexual battery upon a child and two counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child in 1995. Upon his release from prison, Hull was required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
Hull has already been arrested and released on bond.
