More Information Released On Woman’s Arrest After Horses Become Safety Hazard

TYNER – More information has been released on the arrest of a Plymouth woman after horses she owned allegedly got loose from her property over 30 times.
Jennetta Darlene Nickerson, 50, 6566 Plymouth Laporte Trail, Plymouth, is charged with cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor; and two counts of animals running at large, both class B misdemeanors.
On Aug. 23, two people reported two horses got loose from Nickerson’s property. Officers were unable to get a hold of Nickerson regarding the horses. Law enforcement and staff with the Marshall County Humane Society collaborated on securing the horses in their pasture at Nickerson’s property.
On Sept. 14, a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of a loose horse near Tyner. The horse was located in a nearby bean field, eating and destroying crops.
According to court documents, officers were unable to get a hold of Nickerson, the horse’s owner. A neighbor/horse owner in the area offered to secure the horse for the evening.
In 2024 and 2025, there have been an estimated 35 calls regarding Nickerson’s horses getting loose.
An order directing Marshall County’s sheriff to confiscate Nickerson’s horses was filed with the courts on Oct. 17.
Three additional criminal misdemeanor cases for animals running at large have also been filed against Nickerson.
Nickerson was booked in the Marshall County Jail on Oct. 2.
