Columbia City Man Arrested for Alleged Intimidation

WARSAW – A Columbia City man has been arrested for alleged harassment by telephone call and intimidation.

Derick Michael Williams, 44, 116 N. Oak St., Columbia City, has been charged with harassment by means of a telephone call, a class B misdemeanor; and intimidation by threatening to commit a forcible felony, a level 6 felony.
On June 28, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department spoke with the victim, who stated they received three phone calls back-to-back from a restricted phone number. The victim explained that he only answered the third call and heard an unknown man’s voice say, “I’m going to blow your f*****g brains out. See ya.” The victim did not recognize the voice. The victim is the manager of a local business and stated they were unaware of any recent firings.
On July 2, a Warsaw detective spoke with the victim, who advised that they were receiving a text message from a phone number belonging to Williams. The victim explained that Williams interviewed on June 26 and was not offered a job.
On Aug. 12, the victim contacted police and informed them that he received another phone call from a blocked number. The person on the other end screamed they could not wait to kill the victim. Two Warsaw detectives drove to Williams’ residence in Columbia City. After identifying themselves to Williams, they were told to leave by Williams.
On Aug. 14, one of the detectives received an email from the victim’s employer with a copy of Williams’ resume and personal information. They were able to confirm that the phone that had been calling the victim’s phone was Williams’.
Williams has been arrested and released on his own recognizance.
