Warsaw Man Arrested for Alleged Strangulation

WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested for alleged domestic battery and strangulation.

Michael James Knoop, 30, 3380 Old Colony Road, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; and strangulation, a level 6 felony.
On Sept. 5, Kosciusko County dispatch advised officers of a domestic battery at a residence in Warsaw. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with the victim, who said they had been arguing with their mother when Knoop picked them up by the shoulder area of their shirt.
According to court documents, the victim explained that Knoop grabbed their neck, and slammed them several times against the ground, stating they could not breathe. Officers spoke with the victim’s mother, who was unsure as to why the victim called 911. Upon speaking with Knoop, he stated that the victim was arguing with their mother, and Knoop yelled at the victim. Using the home surveillance video, officers found who they believed to be the victim fall to the ground, and a male, believed to be Knoop, was seen on top of the fallen person.
Officers spoke with Knoop again, who admitted he touched the victim on the shoulder area and did not remember being on top of her.
Knoop has been released on his own recognizance, and a no-contact order has been issued for the victim in this case.
Knoop’s initial hearing will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in Kosciusko Superior Court 3.
