Staff Report
BOURBON — A Rochester man has been arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence, resulting in the death of two people from Nappanee.

Jarrett Sutton
Jarrett Sutton, 43, 811 E. 12th St., Rochester, is charged with two counts of driving while suspended resulting in death, both level 5 felonies; and two counts of causing death when operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II drug in their system, both level 4 felonies.
On June 30, Marshall County Dispatch received information of a personal injury crash on Eighth Road and Apple Road, Bourbon. Dispatch told first responders that the accident involved a vehicle and horse-drawn carriage, and while in route, responding units were advised that life-saving measures were being provided to those on scene.
At the scene, officers observed a vehicle with heavy front-end damage that had come to rest in a cornfield on the north side of the roadway, and an injured horse was tied to a utility pole nearby. Aden and Mary Chupp, Nappanee, the carriage’s occupants, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Sutton, was unable to recall what happened to cause the rear-end collision. Sutton was transported to the Community Hospital of Bremen and consented to a chemical test as a result of the fatal collision. Sutton’s driving privileges were suspended at the time of the accident.
On Aug. 7, Indiana Department of Toxicology reported that Sutton’s blood sample tested positive for the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Sutton has been arrested and bailed from Marshall County Jail. His initial hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 5.
