PLYMOUTHÂ – AlphaFlight, a Plymouth-based flight school, is expanding its training fleet with the purchase of four MA-1 Blue Jay aircraft from Maloy Aircraft of Florida. This is intended to enhance pilot training and help address the national shortage of qualified aviators.
The order makes AlphaFlight the launch customer for Maloy’s new MA-1 Blue Jay, a single-engine training aircraft that blends military and civilian flight design.
The model is expected to receive Federal Aviation Administration certification in 2026, with initial deliveries slated for 2029.
AlphaFlight officials said the new planes will allow students to train on higher-performance aircraft similar to those used in military programs. The school’s leaders believe this will better prepare pilots for careers in both aviation, both commercial and defense, offering advanced training capabilities not available in its current fleet.
The expansion marks a significant step for AlphaFlight as it continues to grow its operations in northern Indiana. With the demand for trained pilots projected to rise in the coming years, the school’s investment is part of a broader industry push to meet future aviation needs.
