FORT WAYNE — Bombardier plans to open a new aircraft service center at Fort Wayne International Airport as part of a major U.S. expansion of its maintenance and support operations.
The Montreal-based manufacturer announced Wednesday, Oct. 8 that the 64,500-square-foot facility will be able to accommodate up to six aircraft and offer a range of services, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, avionics installations, and aircraft modifications.
Company officials said the multimillion-dollar project will create about 100 jobs over the next few years, most of them highly skilled technician positions. Operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2026.
Bombardier selected Fort Wayne following a six-month review of potential Midwest locations. Access to a strong aviation workforce and collaboration with state and local officials were key factors in the decision, according to the company.
The Fort Wayne facility marks the first step in Bombardier’s multi-phase U.S. expansion announced in August, driven by increasing demand from business jet customers in the Midwest. The company has nearly 3,000 aircraft in operation across the United States.
Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the investment, calling it a boost to Fort Wayne’s economic development and workforce growth.
The new service center will join Bombardier’s existing network of U.S. facilities in Dallas, Tucson, Hartford, Wichita, and Miami Opa Locka. Officials said the project shows Bombardier’s long-term commitment to the Fort Wayne community and the region’s aviation industry.
