K-9 Officer Used to Apprehend Indianapolis Man in Marshall County

NAPPANEE — An Indianapolis man was arrested after allegedly using a weapon to batter law enforcement in Marshall County.
Samuel Lian, 35, Indianapolis, is facing preliminary charges of battery committed with a deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon, both level 5 felonies; battery against a public safety official and resisting law enforcement, both level 6 felonies; providing a false identity statement, a class A misdemeanor; criminal trespass on a railroad, a class B misdemeanor; and refusal to identify, a class C misdemeanor.
Around 1 p.m. Sept. 25, a K-9 deputy was investigating a report of a suspicious person walking on the railroad tracks in the area of US 6 and Beech Road, Nappanee, when the officer made contact with Lian.
Lian allegedly continued to walk on the railroad property for approximately 30 minutes and refused to comply with officers’ requests and commands, including repeated orders to stop trespassing on railroad property.
When more officers arrived and attempted to approach him, Lian resisted and began to batter officers with an unspecified deadly weapon.
The K-9 deputy first on the scene deployed K-9 Diesel utilizing the K-9 patrol vehicle’s remote door opener. K-9 Diesel assisted in apprehending Lian, who continued to resist arrest while being apprehended but was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
Once in police custody, Lian gave a false identity statement.
Bremen EMS arrived on the scene and transported Lian to Bremen Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
After treatment, he was transported to the Marshall County Jail.
