Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigate the following accidents:
- 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, East CR 1250N and North East Wawasee Drive, Syracuse. Driver: Carolynn Wight, 37, North Walnut Street, Columbia City. Wight’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated at $10,000.
- 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, SR 25, at SR 19, Mentone. Driver: Lonnie Guyton, 60, North CR 600E, Howe. Guyton’s Freightliner was traveling westbound on SR 25, approaching SR 19. When trying to turn left off of SR 25, Guyton’s vehicle left the roadway and drove onto the railroad tracks, becoming stuck. Guyton got out of the Frieghtliner to investigate why it was stuck when a Norfolk Southern train approached eastbound. When the train hit Guyton’s Freightliner, he was standing outside on the passenger’s side, and the impact of the collision forced Guyton to the ground. Guyton was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Samaritan Air Ambulance. Damages are estimated at $100,000.
- 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, South Packerton Road, at North East Pearl Street, Claypool. Drivers: Jaleel Mayberry, 30, Coachman’s Trail, South Bend; and Ephraim Meyer, 19, South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Mayberry was traveling north on Packerton Road, trying to back up after delivering packages. Mayberry said he checked his mirrors prior to backing up but could not see Meyer’s vehicle behind him. Mayberry began backing up the delivery truck, and heard Meyer honking his horn, but was unable to stop in time. Damages estimated at $10,000.
