Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 5:09 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, SR 14, west of South CR 700E, Sidney. Driver: Isaac Sands, 29, West CR 950S, Silver Lake. Sands’ vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $5,000.
- 9:21 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, US 30, at North CR 900E, Pierceton. Driver: Corinne Claire Calapan, 20, Welsh Family Hall, Notre Dame. Calapan lost control of her vehicle and went off the road. Calapan was medically evaluated at the scene but signed a statement of medical refusal. Damages estimated up to $10,000.
- 8:09 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, South SR 25, east of Bruner Road, Warsaw. Driver: Enrique Rangel, Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Rangel’s vehicle hit a dog. Damages estimated up to $2,500.
- 2:44 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, South County Farm Road, at West CR 800S, Claypool. Drivers: Brian R. Fisher, 31, West 11th Street, Rochester; and Jessica C. Metzger, 26, West SR 114, North Manchester. Metzger’s vehicle hit Fisher’s vehicle as he drove through the intersection. The accident caused damage to the yard of a neighboring home. Damages estimated up to $50,000.
- 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, SR 13, south of East CR 900S, Claypool. Driver: Christopher Carpenter, 66, 16th Street, Hobart. Carpenter’s vehicle hit a deer. Damages estimated up to $5,000.
- 7:14 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, West CR 1350N, at North CR 950W, Nappanee. Drivers: Evan J. Rucker, 18, Garnet Drive North, South Bend; and Saraetta S. Weaver, 36, East CR 850N, Kendallville. Rucker ran a stop sign, and his vehicle collided with Weaver’s vehicle. Rucker complained of whiplash and was transported to the hospital by medics. Damages estimated up to $50,000.
Elkhart County
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accident:
- 4:17 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, SR 15, north of CR 42, Goshen. Drivers: Nathan D. Kauffman, 21, Syracuse; and Matthew R. Olsen, 34, Goshen. Kauffman was traveling north on SR 15 when he rear-ended Olsen’s vehicle. Olsen’s vehicle was stopped to turn left into a driveway. Kauffman and a passenger in his vehicle, Marianne E. Schmucker, 21, Syracuse, were both taken to Goshen General Hospital. Kauffman sustained a laceration to his forehead and a minor cut to his right hand. Schmucker sustained a laceration to her nose and complained of hand pain. A toddler in Kauffman’s vehicle was also taken to Goshen Hospital to be checked out due to his age.
