Banks, a U.S. Air Force veteran and father of six, was remembered by colleagues and community leaders as a dedicated public servant within the Republican Party. The Whitley County GOP Central Committee described him as a leader who lived with purpose and carried his values of faith and freedom into every aspect of his work and personal life.
Banks died shortly after attending a GOP hog roast at the Whitley County 4-H Fairgrounds, according to party officials. The event had ended prior to his passing. Indiana State Police said it is not investigating a vehicle crash rumored to be in connection with his death.
In a Thursday, Sept. 18 statement, Whitley County government praised Banks for his leadership, integrity and compassion, noting that his absence leaves a profound void across the community.
State and federal officials, including Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, Sen. Todd Young and Rep. Marlin Stutzman, shared condolences.
