BATESVILLE — A nonprofit children’s museum, Kids Discovery Factory, has announced a $5.4 million project to expand and renovate its facility in downtown Batesville.
The plan, backed in part by Indiana’s READI 2.0 program, will increase the museum’s size from 2,000 to 10,000 square feet.
Construction is set to begin next month, with completion expected in 2026. The redesigned space will include interactive exhibits focused on air, light and water along with studios for art and design. Special areas for celebrations and gatherings are also planned.
During construction, the museum will close its current location but continue offering mobile programs, pop-up play events, summer camps and after-school clubs in Ripley, Franklin, Dearborn and Decatur counties.
Officials said these activities will ensure children in southeastern Indiana continue to have access to hands-on learning opportunities until the museum’s reopening.
READI, which has operated a pilot museum since 2022, said the larger facility will transform into a regional destination.
Funding for the project includes READI support, donations from Batesville Tool & Die, and contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations. Fundraising efforts remain ongoing.
