SYRACUSE — Wawasee Athletic Department announced the approval of Wayne McCoy as the new head coach of the Wawasee High School varsity softball program. His appointment came at the Wawasee School Board’s September meeting.
Coach McCoy brings more than 25 years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and travel-ball levels. McCoy has built a career centered on developing athletes both on and off the field in the softball community across Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio.
McCoy’s resume includes serving as head softball coach at Wright State University Lake Campus, assistant coach for eight years at the University of Saint Francis, and co-founding and leading several competitive travel programs. Programs include the AWP Cougars, Summit City Thunder, and Fort Wayne Lady Cougars. Since 2010, he has also been the senior softball instructor at The Diamond Baseball/Softball Academy in Fort Wayne, where he has trained athletes who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level.
Known for his player-first approach, McCoy has been recognized for building strong relationships with athletes, teaching the fundamentals, instilling values of discipline, teamwork and character development.
“Coach McCoy is exactly the kind of leader we want influencing our student-athletes,” Brent Doty, Athletic Director at Wawasee Community School Corporation said. “His passion for the game, depth of experience, and commitment to developing young women as leaders align perfectly with the department values.”
McCoy will begin leading the Warrior softball program this fall in preparation for the upcoming 2026 season.
