MILFORD — Milford Town Council held an emergency meeting this evening Thursday, Sept. 11 to discuss how to take care of a waterline break in the town hall.
A water leak due to a line break started at Milford Town Hall late yesterday. Utilities Superintendent Stephen Marquart explained the town hall and community building are on two separate 3/4 inch service lines. He described the lines as “not adequate.”
He said the town hall could lose water any moment and would have to be closed if that happened. Selge Construction is getting ready to mobilize on Milford’s waterline work in October. Because of this, he suggested contracting them to put in two new 2 inch water lines in the town hall and community building for $34,800. This quote includes every aspect of the work from directional boring to service valves. Selge could start work Monday morning.
Marquart mentioned he had also asked another company, but it would not be able to start work for several months.
Before approval, Councilman Ken Long asked why pipe was listed as $78 a foot, stating “pipe doesn’t cost that much.” Marquart answered this price included boring. Long stated these categories should be broken down in future quotes.
The council approved work from Selge. Because of this, Main Street will be blocked off from the alley next to the PNC Bank building at 127 S. Main St. to the Milford Community Building at 111 S. Main St. Clerk-Treasurer Tricia Gall estimates the closure will be in effect from Monday, Sept. 15 through Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Before adjourning, the council also set trick or treat times at 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.
