Fire Territory Board Hears Updates On Projects

SYRACUSE — Fire Chief Mickey Scott went through the fire territory board meeting agenda in record time Monday night, Sept. 8. Scott went over his report, which provided updates on ongoing projects.
The new Sutphen fire engine, which was ordered in February 2023 is still scheduled for completion and delivery in August 2026. The engine is expected to arrive no later than Aug. 22, 2026.
Construction of the training center tower at station two has been completed. Work is being done to have the concrete pad around the training tower and the fencing around the center completed in the near future.
The chassis for the aerial has finished production. It is a bit ahead of schedule so it will not enter production until the end of September.
Scott also reported the air compressor that was replaced in July has been sold. The department spoke to Technical Services about replacing the teflon coating on the bottom of the boat. The company is working on getting parts to complete the repair.
All members of the department have taken the Surface Water Rescue Operations and Technician classes and passed all requirements for certification.
Bids are being accepted until 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, for the 2011 Braun ambulance.
The annual Kosciusko County Firefighters Association Fish Fry will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds.
The fire department has utilized 59.77% of its 2025 operations budget.
In August, the department had 17 fire responses and 105 EMS responses. There was no property loss. Year to date, there have been a total of 915 fire and EMS calls in the district with an estimated total of $285,000 in property loss and an estimated $1,810,000 in property saved.
